Letter from the President: February 2024

Dear Ladies,

“Though February is the border between winter and spring”!

Our January coffee morning was organized at Giulietta al Lago, Cafè and Restaurant, in Viale Geno 13, Como, enjoying the beautiful view of the lake over of a cup of cappuccino and interesting talks. It was very nice and all the ladies enjoyed it. It was a good change and start to 2024. Therefore, Giulietta Cafè will be our coffee morning venue for the rest of this year.

This year February brings a festive event: Carnevale, Carnival or Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). This year it is on February 17th. Carnival is a well-known Catholic festival celebrated forty days before Easter, just before Ash Wednesday, with masquerade balls, parades and public street parties. Masks, or maschere, are one of the most important parts of Carnival, and cities throughout Italy celebrate this festival in one way or another, although Venice is certainly the most well-known Italian city for its traditional Carnival masks and parties. The streets are full of people dressed in costumes, and all over town artists and singers entertain with performances and songs. It is a unique adventure worthy of the experience! This festive event is also celebrated by eating special treats prepared only during this season. Chiacchiere, as well as other variations called frappe, bugie or cenci, depending on the region, are delicious!

Valentine’s Day is another special holiday of this month when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. The holiday has expanded to express affection between relatives and friends. We have organized something for you ladies!

We have prepared many other events to celebrate February spanning topics such as art, culture, lifestyle and beauty. Even though this month is short, our calendar if rich. Please check our calendar.

The monthly aperitivo is held on Sunday 25th February at 6 pm at a cozy place at Giulietta Cafè in Viale Geno 13 in Como. You have the opportunity to socialize while tasting some Italian food specialties paired with a tasty prosecco or non-alcoholic drink.
